Today, we get a two-for-one entry. In case the names didn't ring a bell, let me give you a brief introduction.
Herbert and Catherine Schaible are currently charged with third degree murder after they allowed their 8-month old son, Brandon, to die from pneumonia.
Now, I know what you're thinking--no parent "allows" their child to die from a treatable illness so it can't really be their fault. Typically you'd be right but in this particular case, you'd be wrong.
They did allow it. They allowed it by refusing to seek medical attention for their infant son, even though they knew he was sick. What kind of monsters would do such a thing, you ask? Crazy religious ones, that's what kind.
You see, Herbert and Catherine Schaible belong to a fundamentalist church, First Century Gospel Church. One of the things the church preaches and its members believe is that "trust in medicine and doctors is idolatry"
That means that even though baby Brandon was feverish, dehydrated and had difficulty breathing, the Schaibles thought that closing their eyes and hoping real hard he would feel better was preferable to getting him some treatment from someone who might have studied how to keep people from dying of treatable illnesses.
Turns out, apparently they didn't hope hard enough. Although, according to their preacher, Nelson Clark, it's not just that they're not the greatest hopers, it's that the Schaibles have some problem that kept their hoping from helping. In Clark's words, "They realize they must get back to God, to seek wisdom from him, to
find where the spiritual lack is in their heart and life . . . so this
won't happen again."
A tragic story, yes? However, I can feel some of you out there saying, "Look, they lost their child. Truly that should be punishment enough, right? They have to live with the fact that their misguided belief in their church's tenants killed their baby. That alone would have shaken not only their faith but would stand to torture them daily, no? Do they really need to go into the torture chamber?"
The answer to that is, yes. Because as horrific as it is that they knowingly allowed their baby to suffer and die without medical treatment, IT WASN'T THE FIRST TIME.
That's right, one of the reasons the Schaibles are being charged with murder is because they let Brandon die while they were on probation from letting his older brother, Kent, die a few years ago from the same illness for the same reason.
Yep, door locked, key destroyed. Happy eternity, you sick fucks.
Designated Personal Torture: Individual cells, naturally. Each with hard concrete floors, no heat, no beds, no blankets, no chairs, floors permanently strewn with tiny Legos. Additionally, they will be human guinea pigs, acting as the control group for the testing of all manner of itch and pain-relieving ointments and medications.
